But this does not mean that you will never have to attend a class if you’re taking the online course. Online certification cuts down the classroom time, but you certainly need to come to the class for some hands on preparation. Some diploma programs can be completed in 3 months or 90 days. An associate degree can be completed in 18 months or one and a half years. A bachelor’s degree in phlebotomy will take two years of training.
After you complete your course, you can start looking for employers. Most of the time, hospitals are the first option. Then, you can try medical offices and private clinics. There are also blood laboratories that need the services of someone with a phlebotomy expertise. As a phlebotomist, your main job is to draw blood from patients. Unless you have the doctor’s go signal, you cannot administer medication or fluid via venipuncture. Some clinics may expect a phlebotomist to help with generic laboratory work like sorting samples and other clerical tasks.
